Davis Family Camp 2009 -- Fun on Four Wheelers

We had several four wheelers in camp and several went on some long rides, visiting long canyons, old ruins, and high vistas. Most of these pictures are of the activity around or near the camp.

Davis Family Camp 2009 -- The Camp

Our camp included two trailers (Grandpa and Grandma's and Wade and Mary Jo's) and several tents. We had huge fires, thanks to all of the stumps pulled into camp, and wonderful meals. Everyone had a good time listening to stories, playing games (including some ninja game), roasting marshmallows, and sitting by the fire. A lot of family stories were told with consensus that Bryce was the biggest tease, Kevin the toughest, Brad the most accident prone, Steve having the worst accidents, Todd the most picked on, and Mary Jo the most spoiled.

Davis Family Camp 2009 -- Fishing

Meadow Lake is also well known for very good fishing, plus we learned that the lake had just been restocked the day before we arrived. Nearly everyone who fished caught at least one and the real pros, those with all the gear and pontoon boats, caught dozens.

Thanks to Wade and Kevin's help, most of us ended up with the right lures or flies and we all had some luck.

The first two days of fishing were helped by good weather, but the last two included some rain, sleet, hail, and believe-it-or-not, a few minutes of snow -- on August 14th!

Davis Family Camp 2009 -- Hiking to Gilmore Peak

One of the more adventurous activities at Meadow Lake is hiking to Gilmore Peak (10,900 feet) which sits just to the south of the lake. Steve, Matthew, Aubrey, and Deena made the trek which provided great views of the lake, the Lemhi mountains, Mount Borah (Idaho's tallest peak) and a distant look at the White Cloud range. Along the way we saw two large military aircraft overhead in a refueling maneuver. We also saw two fighter jets that were actually flying in the valley below us.

Near the top, we decided scramble to the top of a point to see the lake below and unfortunately Aubrey slipped and fell receiving several cuts on her hand and leg. Fortunately, none were to serious and we fixed her up with by tearing strips of fabric off of Steve's shirt. The view from the top was spectacular and well worth the trip.
